چکیده

Oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) steels are promising candidates for applications in fusion and fission rectors. Y2O3 particles dispersed in an iron matrix drastically improve the strength without adverse effects on ductility. We investigate here details of the dislocation core structure in Y2O3 precipitates, and at the interface between the iron matrix and the Y2O3 precipitate. We also simulate dislocation interaction with nano-size Y2O3 precipitates. It is shown that the c-surface energies on planes between oxygen atoms and metallic atoms are extremely high, and that dislocations in an iron matrix cannot penetrate into Y2O3 particles. Three-dimensional parametric dislocation dynamics simulations of the interaction between an edge dislocation and an Y2O3 particle are carried out. The results show that the critical resolved shear stress (CRSS) has a strong dependence on the lattice mismatch Y2O3 particles and the iron matrix, and that it is lower than analytically calculated values of the Orowan stress. 2010 Elsevier B.V. Validation of the Concurrent Atomistic-Continuum Method on Screw Dislocation/Stacking Fault Interactions

Dislocation/stacking fault interactions play an important role in the plastic deformation of metallic nanocrystals and polycrystals. These interactions have been explored in atomistic models, which are limited in scale length by high computational cost. In contrast, multiscale material modeling approaches have the potential to simulate the same systems at a fraction of the computational cost. I...

Matching conditions in atomistic-continuum modeling of materials.

A new class of matching conditions between the atomistic and continuum regions is presented for the multiscale modeling of crystals. They ensure the accurate passage of large scale information between the atomistic and continuum regions and at the same time minimize the reflection of phonons at the interface. These matching conditions can be made adaptive if we choose appropriate weight functio...

Adaptive Atomistic-continuum Modeling of Defect Interaction with the Debdm

New procedures for modeling interactions among dislocations and nanosized cracks within the dynamically evolving bridging domain method (DEBDM) have been developed. The DEBDM is an efficient concurrent atomistic-tocontinuum approach based on the bridging domain method, where the atomic domain dynamically adapts to encompass evolving defects. New algorithms for identifying and coarse graining di...

Finite Sized Atomistic Simulations of Screw Dislocations

The interaction of screw dislocations with an applied stress is studied using atomistic simulations in conjunction with a continuum treatment of the role played by the far field boundary condition. A finite cell of atoms is used to consider the response of dislocations to an applied stress and this introduces an additional force on the dislocation due to the presence of the boundary. Continuum ...

A Continuum Model For Stone-wales Defected Carbon Nanotubes

In this paper, a continuum model is proposed so that a Stone-Wales (SW) defected carbon nanotube (CNT) is replaced by an initial circumferential crack in a continuum cylindrical shell. For this purpose, the critical energy release rate and then the fracture toughness of a defected CNT are calculated using the results of an existing atomistic-based continuum finite element simulation. Finally, t...
